Tracking US Democratic Vitality

RealTime DemTrends tracks the factors contributing to US democratic erosion and consolidation leveraging a comprehensive framework based on decades of political science research and extensive consultation with democracy practitioners worldwide.

Through a combination of AI-assisted analysis and multi-tiered expert human editorial review, the project systematically monitors and scores events on a scale of +3 – significant progress to -3 – significant concern across 39 factors organized into thirteen dimensions that speak to the vitality of the US democratic system.

Specifically, the dimensions capture events that reflect upon:

  • the underlying conditions that allow for a democracy to thrive,

  • the institutions and practices within the US democratic infrastructure, and

  • the extent to which the system fulfills what we have come to expect of good governance.
